			SMETER short reference

Abstract.

SMETER is my effort to discover a real meaning of the grunged digits,
showing by USRobotics modems in answer to ATY7 command. Analysis has
been carried out with great assistance of Alexandr Pask and Andrew
Kocherov from Analytic TelecomSytems by using their line of modems
(AnCom ST-2442) and digital telephone line simulators (AnCom SIM-2).
All results obtained are _only_my_opinion_ about real meaning of things
(this is disclaimer).

Usage.

Program requires the FOSSIL driver to be loaded and locked. The only
command line parameter is COM port number (0 - COM1, 1 - COM2 etc.)
Program provides simple terminal emulator and line stats monitor
itself. While running You should dial any number by typing ATDxxxxxx
command, and then after the connection has etablished press <Tab> key
to view the physical characteristics of your line. While viewing You can
store these characteristics by pressing <Enter> key, or terminate
viewing by <Esc>. Total quit is <Ctrl-Q> key. Enjoy.

Appendix.

This program and its source code are free of charge. I am not
responsible for anything has been done through using this program. Use
it at Your own risk. I accept any comments and proposals (about Phase
Error f.e.) but give no guarantees to answer on every one. Beer,
bucks and old dusted USR V.everything modems are also very
appreciated... :)
